Intermittent writings about the happenings in my garden.

Tuesday, March 12, 2002
For those who don't know, I live in a townhouse about 25 miles west of Chicago. This has been a mild winter for Chicagoland. I have a front/south garden and a back/north garden. I have discovered this spring that the gardens are about 3 weeks apart in terms of bloom time.

Feb. 17 -- The first early yellow crocuses bloomed in the south garden

March 9 -- The Iris Reticulata began blooming in the south garden

March 12 -- the early yellow crocuses began blooming in the north garden. Spring is beginning to color the front garden in yellows and purples as the early crocuses, the irises, and the violas are all beginning to bloom. It looks like some of the giant crocuses will bloom tomorrow.

I am wishing I had a digital camera for current photo updates. You may view past photos here.

Oh my, I'm blogging. Here's why:

I've been meaning to keep a gardening journal. Every spring I say I'll do it, but I don't. I can't remember from year to year if the crocuses are early or late, because I can't recall when they emerged last year or the year before. Much to my surprise, people ask about my garden. They want to know what I've planted and what is blooming now. I think a garden blog may be the solution.
